Next are the Age of Exploration maps depicting the Ice Continent centuries before Antarctica was officially discovered. New Swabia (Neuschwabenland) was a territorial claim made by Nazi Germany in the late 1930s. Admiral Richard E. Byrd led Operation Highjump to confront the Nazi base there, and to recover a Nazi flying disc. Admiral Byrd spoke of “ flying objects that could fly from pole to pole at incredible speeds.”
