To address the erasure of transgender mestiz@ realities from history, Linda Heidenreich employs an intersectional analysis that critiques monopoly and global capitalism. Heidenreich builds on the work of Gloria Anzaldúa’s concept of nepantleras , those who could live between and embody more than one culture, to coin the term nepantla² , marking times of capitalist transition where gender was also in motion. Transgender mestiz@s, too, embodied that movement. Heidenreich insists on a careful examination of the multiple in-between spaces that construct lives between cultures and genders during in-between times of shifting empire and capital. In so doing, they offer an important discussion of race, class, nation, and citizenship centered on transgender bodies of color that challenges readers to rethink the way they understand the gendered social and economic challenges of today.","forthcoming":false,"isbn13":"9781496213402","publication_date":"20201001","publisher":"Nebraska","slug":"nepantla-squared","subtitle":"Transgender Mestiz@ Histories in Times of Global Shift","title":"Nepantla Squared"},"discovery":{"categories":{"all":[{"bisac_code":"SOC064020","confidence_band":"medium","label":"Transgender Studies","score":0.7775,"source":"bisac_hint_model"},{"bisac_code":"LIT004050","confidence_band":"medium","label":"Hispanic American Lit Crit","score":0.7714,"source":"bisac_hint_model"},{"bisac_code":"LIT004160","confidence_band":"medium","label":"Queer Literary Criticism","score":0.7394,"source":"bisac_hint_model"}],"hint":[{"bisac_code":"SOC064020","confidence_band":"medium","label":"Transgender Studies","score":0.7775,"source":"bisac_hint_model"},{"bisac_code":"LIT004050","confidence_band":"medium","label":"Hispanic American Lit Crit","score":0.7714,"source":"bisac_hint_model"},{"bisac_code":"LIT004160","confidence_band":"medium","label":"Queer Literary Criticism","score":0.7394,"source":"bisac_hint_model"}],"publisher":[{"bisac_code":"BIO031000","confidence_band":"high","label":"LGBTQ+ Lives","score":1,"source":"onix_publisher_code"},{"bisac_code":"HIS024000","confidence_band":"high","label":"Latin American History","score":1,"source":"onix_publisher_code"},{"bisac_code":"SOC064020","confidence_band":"high","label":"Transgender Studies","score":1,"source":"onix_publisher_code"}]},"genres":[{"label":"Transgender Studies","score":0.7775,"slug":"transgender-studies"},{"label":"Hispanic American Lit Crit","score":0.7714,"slug":"hispanic-american-lit-crit"},{"label":"Queer Literary Criticism","score":0.7394,"slug":"queer-literary-criticism"}],"reader_fit":["Readers exploring transgender mestiz@ histories across two eras","Good for readers interested in race, class, and citizenship through transgender bodies of color"],"related_lists":[],"series":null,"similar_books":[{"authors":["Israel Reyes"],"book_id":"9781978827851","cover_image_url":"https://img.bookfrontier.com/9781978827851.jpg?v=c9629c12afda2460","score":0.686,"title":"Embodied Economies","url":"https://bookfrontier.com/books/9781978827851"},{"authors":["Emma Heaney"],"book_id":"9781478030454","cover_image_url":"https://img.bookfrontier.com/9781478030454.jpg?v=d6e8eff90cae12bd","score":0.6845,"title":"Feminism Against Cisness","url":"https://bookfrontier.com/books/9781478030454"},{"authors":["Marta E.
