An inhabitant of a colony of Earth in a parallel universe, Cenex leads us through his years as an experimental subject, a stay in suburbia, and not-so-far-off lands as he struggles to find a name, a body, and a stable home. His song clashes variegated sources with work by cis writers on trans figures, referencing everything from Clueless to Taino cosmology within a single line. Algarabía inscribes an origin narrative for trans people in the face of their erasure from colonial and anti-colonial literary canons, laughing at its own survival with sharp, unserious rage. Una epopeya puertorriqueña trans que mezcla poesía y narrativa especulativa, por un ganador del Premio Lambda Algarabía sigue a Cenex, un ser trans que narra su vida retrospectivamente mientras navega por las historias contadas en su nombre. Habitante de una colonia de la Tierra en un universo paralelo, Cenex nos conduce a través de sus años como sujeto experimental, una estancia suburbana, unas tierras no tan lejanas y su lucha por encontrar un cuerpo y un hogar estables. Su canto enfrenta textos de escritores cis sobre figuras trans con una variedad de fuentes, haciendo referencia a Clueless y a la cosmología taína dentro de un mismo verso. Algarabía inscribe un mito fundacional para las personas trans frente a su exclusión de los cánones literarios coloniales y anticoloniales y se ríe de su propia supervivencia con una rabia pícara y aguda.","forthcoming":false,"isbn13":"9781644453513","publication_date":"20250902","publisher":"Graywolf","slug":"algarab-a","subtitle":"The Song of Cenex, Natural Son of the Isle Alarabíyya / La Canción De Cenex, Hijo Natural De La Ínsula Alarabíyya","title":"Algarabía"},"discovery":{"categories":{"all":[{"bisac_code":"POE005070","confidence_band":"medium","label":"Hispanic American Poetry","score":0.7799,"source":"bisac_hint_model"},{"bisac_code":"YAN038060","confidence_band":"medium","label":"Caribbean & Latin America for Teens","score":0.7305,"source":"bisac_hint_model"}],"hint":[{"bisac_code":"POE005070","confidence_band":"medium","label":"Hispanic American Poetry","score":0.7799,"source":"bisac_hint_model"},{"bisac_code":"YAN038060","confidence_band":"medium","label":"Caribbean & Latin America for Teens","score":0.7305,"source":"bisac_hint_model"}],"publisher":[{"bisac_code":"POE005070","confidence_band":"high","label":"Hispanic American Poetry","score":1,"source":"onix_publisher_code"},{"bisac_code":"POE012000","confidence_band":"high","label":"Caribbean & Latin American Poetry","score":1,"source":"onix_publisher_code"},{"bisac_code":"POE014000","confidence_band":"high","label":"Epic Poetry","score":1,"source":"onix_publisher_code"}]},"genres":[{"label":"Hispanic American Poetry","score":0.7799,"slug":"hispanic-american-poetry"},{"label":"Caribbean & Latin America for Teens","score":0.7305,"slug":"caribbean-latin-america-for-teens"}],"reader_fit":["Good for readers interested in trans narratives and colonial literary erasure","Readers drawn to poetry blended with speculative fiction"],"related_lists":[],"series":null,"similar_books":[{"authors":["Julián Delgado Lopera","Juliana Delgado Lopera"],"book_id":"9781879960947","cover_image_url":"https://img.bookfrontier.com/9781879960947.jpg?v=1540ba3eaabdd047","score":0.6802,"title":"¡cuéntamelo!","url":"https://bookfrontier.com/books/9781879960947"},{"authors":["José Olivarez"],"book_id":"9781608469543","cover_image_url":"https://img.bookfrontier.com/9781608469543.jpg?v=8bdc85114705afda","score":0.6704,"title":"Citizen Illegal","url":"https://bookfrontier.com/books/9781608469543"},{"authors":["Achy Obejas"],"book_id":"9780807017531","cover_image_url":"https://img.bookfrontier.com/9780807017531.jpg?v=db1a02726ebab527","score":0.6661,"title":"The Boy Kingdom / El Reino De Los Varones","url":"https://bookfrontier.com/books/9780807017531"}],"topics":[{"evidence_refs":["keyword:lgbt poetry"],"label":"Poetry","score":0.1898,"slug":"poetry"},{"evidence_refs":["keyword:science fiction"],"label":"Science","score":0.1776,"slug":"science"},{"evidence_refs":["keyword:political"],"label":"Political","score":0.0493,"slug":"political"},{"evidence_refs":["keyword:spanish poetry"],"label":"Spanish","score":0.0301,"slug":"spanish"},{"evidence_refs":["keyword:epic poem"],"label":"Poem","score":0.0264,"slug":"poem"}],"what_you_get":["Themes: Trans identity, Colonial literary erasure, Speculative fiction.","Themes: Poetry, Science, Political.","Reading lane: Hispanic American Poetry and Caribbean & Latin America for Teens."]},"llm_signals":{"confidence":0.91,"pacing":"unknown","reader_fit":["Readers interested in trans narratives and colonial literary erasure","Readers drawn to poetry blended with speculative fiction"],"themes":["Trans identity","Colonial literary erasure","Speculative fiction"],"tropes":[]},"source_presence":{"amazon":true,"book_detail":true,"goodreads":true,"llm_signals":true,"similarity_seed":true},"stats":{"amazon_ratings_count":1,"goodreads_ratings_count":15,"goodreads_reviews_count":4,"quality_score":0.8414}}
